In hospitality, first impressions have always mattered. Today, operators must work harder than ever to stand out.
For award-winning Finch Interiors, working with Criterion Hospitality at Moxy by Marriott in Piccadilly Circus, the vision was to create something truly immersive.
The design brief was bold, and glass was central to shaping an unforgettable guest experience.
Peach and copper bevelled mirrors formed a sculptural ‘sun and rays’ installation, positioned so that as guests ascended the escalator, the reflection would complete the circle across a mirrored ceiling above.
Mirrored surfaces incorporated striking artwork. Infinity mirrors in the bathrooms added further depth and drama.
Turning that vision into reality required careful coordination long before installation began.
Working closely with Finch Interiors and the managing architect, detailed drawings and surveys were provided to capture the design intent precisely.
Our role was to ensure that vision was deliverable.
Following site surveys and sample development, we reviewed how each mirrored element would be fixed, how access at varying heights would be achieved, the weight tolerances of the suspended ceiling system, and the long-term considerations of maintenance and durability.
Hundreds of specifications were produced across multiple bespoke elements. Samples were created and refined to achieve the right tones, trims and finishes while ensuring compliance and longevity.
Complexity Beyond Aesthetics
The mirrored ceiling required confirmation of load tolerances for the suspended system. Safety compliance was critical for overhead installations.
Access for maintenance, sprinkler integration and ventilation all had to be factored into the design. CNC cut-outs were incorporated to ensure systems above the ceiling remained operational.
Infinity mirrors introduced further considerations, including wall depth, tap positioning and the additional thickness required to house integrated LED lighting.
Each element had to work individually. All of them had to work together.
Behind the Revised Timeline
Midway through delivery, the client’s internal timeline accelerated. A key milestone required the ‘sun and rays’ installation to be completed within days.
Production capacity was reorganised. Drawings were prioritised. Machines were set up specifically for this feature. Glass was processed, finished and transported into central London. Installation teams worked alongside other trades on site, extending hours where necessary to meet the revised deadline.
There was one opportunity to fit.
The installation was completed on schedule.
Guests now experience a dramatic mirrored environment that amplifies light and creates impact. What they do not see is the planning, coordination and responsiveness that made it possible.
In projects like this, spectacle is visible. Discipline is not.
And in hospitality, the experience only works when both are delivered together.
